Emerging Writers Grant

This grant, supported by the Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund, supports newsrooms to amplify the work of previously unpublished writers. Publishers may apply for grants of $1,000 to help encourage emerging writers to produce stories for their news service.

Details

These $1,000 grants must be used to support the publication of journalism by a previously professionally unpublished writer (e.g. never been paid as a writer).

Eligibility

The grant is open for newsrooms/news organisations to apply and select the writer whose story will be published.

Applicants must be current members of LINA, meaning you have met LINA’s Hallmarks of Membership and agreed to uphold our Editorial Standards or equivalent policy of your own.

Funding breakdown

$1,000 grant total. Of which, $800 is to be paid to the emerging writer for their article. Newsrooms retain $200 to cover publishing/administration fees.

Reporting requirements

  • Publishers will need to provide a link to the story published, data on engagement and any further writing work the reporter might undertake for their publication moving forward.
