2026 LINA Board nominations are open

LINA is calling for two new LINA board members to join us for a two-year term, 2026 – 2028. Here’s what it involves and how to apply.

We are calling for nominations for the 2026-2028 positions now to represent the publisher group and ensure our work is aligned with the needs of the local and independent news industry in Australia.

LINA’s voluntary Board consists of seven members, appointed for staggered terms. Some positions are appointed by our parent body, the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) and some (including these two seats) are appointed by the LINA membership.

The current Board members with sunsetting terms are:

  • Peri Strathearn who has been a LINA Board member for two terms (4 years) and a consistent advocate for regional and small publishers. Peri has chosen to stand down from the Board at the end of this term. We thank Peri for sharing his knowledge, his network, his passion and his amicable humour with all publishers and the LINA team.
  • Louise Cornegé who has contributed greatly to LINA’s development over the past two years and plans to re-stand for another term.

Nominations are open now

Any LINA member publisher can nominate one representative to stand for a Board position (either yourself or another person from your organisation). As described in LINA’s Constitution, nominations must be endorsed by two publisher members — your own publication and one other member. Information about the nominees will be circulated via email for voting in November and results will be announced at our online Annual Review meeting to be held at lunchtime on Thursday 12th November.

What’s involved

As you know, LINA is an organisation that serves the local and independent digital news publishers of Australia. That’s why our board is comprised of a mix of news industry leaders who provide expertise and people with complementary skills in strategy and governance to guide the direction and focus of LINA’s work.

You will attend board meetings which occur a minimum of six times per calendar year. These are generally held online, with one in-person meeting each year. You are also encouraged to attend the LINA Annual Summit in person. At these meetings you will help guide the strategic direction of the association and contribute your expertise to Board decisions.

Application process

1. LINA seeks a Board with a range of skills and perspectives in leadership, industry and diversity across the group. Identify which skills you would potentially bring to the role by checking the Board Skills Matrix. You can find explanatory notes on sheet two.

2. Read the LINA constitution.

3. Complete the nomination form below. You will need:

→ A short statement about what you will bring to the Board, with reference to the Board Skills Matrix.

To proceed to the application form, you will need to log in to your LINA account via the LINA website.

4. Find another member to second your application – your nomination form will be sent to your endorser when you submit it online.  Nominations close at 5pm (AEDT) on Tuesday 27th October, 2024.
