With video content now generating 12 times more shares than text and images combined, it’s important for digital-first journalists to have access to digital content creation tools.
LINA has compiled the following resources for video and graphic editing, available to LINA member publishers. If you’d like to access this information but are not a member, take a look at the hallmarks of a LINA membership here.
- Jean-Baptiste Alary from DailyMotion explains how to create video content for your news channel. He provides examples of LINA member publisher content, and teaches in detail how to capture and edit content. His top tips:
- Research and plan your video before filming, including creating a storyboard
- Ensure you’re getting written consent from your interviewees and subjects
- Remember to capture b-roll shots to use in your editing
- Start small! You can use your smartphone to film and edit your videos, and purchase equipment/editing software once you’re comfortable and have trialled the process
- Jean-Baptiste’s presentation slides are available to members under his shop-talk. To access his resource recommendations for creating video content, scroll down to the bottom of his slides. He links to videos on how to film on your smartphone and the pivot to AI videos.
- Canva has a series of free tutorial videos available on YouTube detailing how to edit on the platform. This includes how to make branded social videos, how to make templates, and how to create quick social content. You can access these videos here.
- Canva offers a free premium membership to all LINA members, using an access code. Members can find the code here.
- Canva has a content management calendar, allowing you to schedule and post the multimedia content you’re creating in the program. You can find instructions here.
- This LINA shop-talk hosted by Canva’s Partnerships Manager Diana Ablevan runs through the site’s set of templates that can be used to create social media and media kit assets.
