Hi there!
This is another reminder that we’ve got a BIG day of Shop Talks today.
Our two presentations today, which couldn’t be more timely, will cover The Voice Referendum, and Emergency Reporting, particularly focusing on bushfires.
REPORTING ON THE VOICE REFERENDUM
From 11:30AM – 12:30PM AEST
We’ll be speaking with ABC News senior journalist and presenter, Miriam Corowa. Miriam has led the setup of the Referendum Hub, and the Referendum working group. We’ll also hear from Mark Maley, who is the ABC News Policies Advisor.
They’ll cover:
– How to be mindful about the impact the Referendum can have on Indigenous staff, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities as a whole.
– Resources that can be accessed to assist with responsible reporting on the issues.
– Editorial policy guidance about The Voice.
EMERGENCY REPORTING
As bushfire season is approaching
From 1:00 – 2:00PM AEST
We’ll be welcoming Gianfranco Di Giovanni, the Emergency Broadcasting Coordinator for Western Australia, as well as ABC local editor for the Goldfields and Esperance, Robert Koenig-Luck. Robert has covered multiple emergency events, including the mega blaze in the Blue Mountains and Batemans Bay in 2019 to 2020.
We’ll also hear from ABC News Mobile Editor, Lincoln Archer, who can take us through the ins and outs of live blogging during emergencies.
We hope to see you online today, but please take care of yourselves during these presentations as we recognise that these can be emotional and affective topics.
